That offer to review for Mixbook came late in May while I was on vacation. Soon enough it was time to get back on track and caught up with my writing commitments. Before I knew it we were into July and I feared I had missed my chance to review this company that had peaked my interest. To my excitement, the review offer still stood and I have to remark on how friendly, helpful, and kind the Mixbook staff are to work with.

Direct quote from About Mixbook, 08/08/11
I am a novice blogger, and a wannabe photographer. What I lack in skill, is made up for in creativity. Design ideas frequently bounce around in my brain, though I don’t always know how to make them come to life. Mixbook designs gave me the foundation I needed to bring my project to life. To start, it is an easy process to set up an account with Mixbook. The next step is to add photos, and yes, you can pull them from your computer files, facebook, picassa, and a number of other sources.
After choosing a project, select a pre-made theme, or create a completely custom theme of your choosing. I started by choosing the 8x11 Landscape, 20 page photobook. And scrolled through the pre-made themes, selecting the "Classic Mixbook" for it's green, and brown tones. Easily enough I could have placed photos were indicated, added text, and left the project feeling like the pre-made template theme was beautiful enough to purchase. But, that would have been too easy for someone as indecisive and curious as me. I literally spent weeks playing with my project. As I played with the backgrounds, layouts, and stickers, the Mixbook “classic theme” became my own.
I was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the pricing is. I am interested in creating a calendar, and am thinking ahead to my Christmas cards. I saw that Mixbook offers photo cards for as low as .39 cents. And I always keep my ears perked for promo codes available to give a discount. The product price ranges for photo books is listed below. The one highlighted yellow is what I ordered:
- 8x6" Pocket Landscape Softcover - $11.99
- 8x6" Pocket Landscape Hardcover - $19.99
- 11x8.5" Classic Landscape Hardcover - $29.99
- 14x11" Coffee Table Landscape Hardcover - $49.99
Another reason to love Mixbook, your project is stored on your account even after it has been ordered and/or published. I went back and made a copy of my project, and chose the option of copying it "without photos". That way it was easier for me to add only the photos I had permission to use publicly. After doing the edits to my "Copy", I was eager to publish it for my friends to get a peek at how Mixbook works. In the preview below, the blank spaces show the scrapbook layering effects that I fell in love with. And the folks at Mixbook made sharing my project very easy. They give you the code after publishing is confirmed.

Mixbook does not proof-read.
This is the first review I have done without finding at least a few CONS to share with my readers. There really weren't many cons to using Mixbook. I found a minor typo the day after ordering my photo book. I will think of it every time I look at my book, and regret not getting someone else to look it over before ordering. My advice to readers- prowl around the site, pick a project, set a price limit, don't get overwhelmed in the endless creative possibilities, and just have fun with it. Also, be sure to proof-read, (even read-aloud) and get someone else to proof-read the project BEFORE publishing and/or ordering.
Here is an exclusive discount for my readers. Head over to Mixbook, create a project, and use this promo code at check out for a 20% discount:
